Greg Leonard Melton, 59, of Sedalia passed away Friday, June 9, 2017 at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, MO from the result of a vehicle wreck on October 9, 2012 that occurred south of Sedalia. He was born on September 26, 1957 in Henderson, KY the son of Joseph K. Melton who preceded him in death and Peggy Sue Armstrong Melton who resides in Henderson, KY. On March 30, 1998 in Henderson, KY he was united in marriage to Dana L. Burlingame who resides of the home. Greg owned and operated the Sedalia News Journal for over 20 years. Prior to his ownership of the News Journal, he worked for Thompson Newspaper Publishing as a consultant. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was a member and past Exalted Ruler of Sedalia Elks Lodge BPOE #125. Greg enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing, and being involved in city and county politics. His greatest passion was spending time with his family and raising his two boys Justice "Jay" and Damien. In addition to his wife Dana and his mother he is also survived by five children, Chad Melton and his wife LeeAnna of Nashville, TN, Melissa Cardwell and her husband Daniel of Smyrna, TN, Tara Melton of Sedalia, Justice "Jay" McDonald of the home and Damien Newkirk of the home; three brothers, Preston, Ronnie and Jerry Melton all of Henderson, KY; two sisters, Peggy Melton of Henderson, KY and Shawn Cash of Pleasant Hill, MO; and nine grandchildren. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Melton. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Rea Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dan Hankins officiating. Family visitation time will begin at 9:00 a.m., prior to service at the chapel. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia. Pallbearers will be Hayden Karkiewicz, Steve Fritz, Randy Kirby, Phillip Sawyer, Herb Burlingame, Bill McKee, Noah Owen and Ray Vogel. Honorary bearers will be Gary Ballard, Kelly Birdsong, Martin White, Rob Cash, Andy Gelbach and John Fritz. Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
