Frances Doreen Burkhalter

Frances Doreen Burkhalter, 91, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Fair View Nursing Home. She was born on July 15, 1927 in Florence, MO, the daughter of Friedrich C. and Alma M. (Bottcher) Bretall, who preceded her in death.

On May 23, 1948 in Sedalia, she was united in marriage to Victor Dorsey Burkhalter, who preceded her in death on July 28, 1994.

Frances was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Florence, MO, where she was baptized on September 1, 1940 and confirmed on April 6, 1941. She worked as a waitress and most notably a cook at the Old Missouri Homestead Restaurant and McGraths in Sedalia for over 50 years. She enjoyed going fishing up at the farm with her husband.

Survivors include a son, Marvin Burkhalter (Nancy) of Windsor; a daughter, Victoria Burkhalter of Champaign, IL; seven grandchildren, Heather, Holly, Annie, Clinton, Clayton, Wade, and Georgia; twelve great grandchildren, Alex, Emma, Caleb, Nathan, Dawson, Brayla, Elena, Gabe, Jacob, Faith, Kaley, and Ava; two brothers, William Bretall (Judy) of Springfield, MO, Robert Bretall (Sandy) of Colorado; and three sisters, Joan Fallis of McPherson, KS, Marian Forbes (Lloyd) of Sedalia, and Rhoda Moore (Dave) of Sedalia.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Victor Michael Burkhalter; a brother, Carl Bretall; and a sister, Jean Lecchi.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 at St. John United Church of Christ Cemetery in Florence, MO with Rev. Larry Gallamore officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the graveside at St. John United Church of Christ, Florence, MO.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. John United Church of Christ or St. John United Church of Christ Cemetery Fund.
