Floyd William "Shack" Shackelford, 89, of La Monte, MO, passed away January 16, 2017 after a long illness at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia. He was born on January 27, 1927 in Shawnee, OK, the son of John Roy and Mary Edna (Poe) Shackelford Sr., who preceded him in death.
On January 2, 1949 in Gainsville, TX, he was united in marriage to Billie Jo Davis, who resides of the home.
He attended Shawnee schools and enlisted in the US Navy at the age of sixteen, serving three years on the USS Miami in the South Pacific. He worked fifteen years in the oil fields and twenty-five years as a union iron worker before retiring in 1987. He lived in a variety of places including Florida where he proudly worked on the VAB Building at Cape Canaveral. He led a long and adventurous life. He loved the Lake of the Ozarks and was an avid fisherman. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Moose Lodge, Masons, and Shriners.
Besides his wife Billie, he is also survived by a daughter, Carole Woosley (T.J.) of Seattle, WA; a son, Bill Shackelford of Sedalia; twin grandsons, Carter and James Woosley of Seattle, WA; his black Lab dog Sam; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, John Roy Shackelford, Jr.; and a sister, Viola Melton.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Burial will be at Crystal Cemetery, Crystal, OK.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sedalia Animal Shelter in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
