Ernest Grant Hedges, 94, of Sedalia, MO, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center. He was born on November 30, 1930, in Corwin, KS, the son of Ernest H. and Carrie Doris (Mumford) Hedges, who preceded him in death.
Ernest was united in marriage to Jo Ann Wissman, who preceded him in death on June 14, 2006.
Ernest, a man of unwavering faith, was a dedicated member of the Highland Park Baptist Church, Topeka, KS. His commitment to serving his community was evident in his active role in the Gideons International, where he provided spiritual guidance and hope to inmates. His professional life was equally impactful, with a distinguished career at KTWU Television in Topeka, KS, where his visionary leadership as chief engineer was instrumental in the station's establishment.
Ernest's personal time was often spent pursuing his passion for fishing. He found great joy and tranquility in this hobby, especially in the art of tying his own fishing flies.
He is survived by all his loving nieces and nephews, along with many cherished friends and members of his faith community.
In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary LaDonna Hedges Kiewert and Earleta Nell Hedges Selm.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum, Sedalia, MO, with pastor Dan Hankins officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kirk Wissman, Bart Wissman, Dylan Wissman, Ty Wissman, Vince Fox, and Stan Montgomery. Honorary bearers will be Leo Dick and nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to ACG Hospice, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
