Obituary For Emmett Fairfax

Emmett W. Fairfax, 86, of Sedalia, MO passed away Monday, September 18, 2017 at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia. He was born on December 12, 1930 in Sedalia, the son of Jesse and Georgia (Bohon) Fairfax, who preceded him in death.

On April 25, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Alice L. Rissler, who survives of the home.

Emmett was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Sedalia, former President of Missouri 4H Council, United Way Board & Chairman of United Way Drive in 1970, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Chairman and board member of Missouri Veterans Commission, Sedalia Chamber of Commerce Board, Pettis County Development President from 1986 to 1987, Sedalia Masonic Lodge #236 AF & AM, Scottish Rite, Boys and Girls Club board member, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #2591, Sedalia. Emmett served his country honorably in United States Marine Corps. during the Korean War.

Emmett was a cattle and row crop farmer and worked at Pittsburgh Corning until becoming the Pettis County Sheriff in 1961 until 1977 and then again in 1983 & 1984. He was an U.S. Marshall Western District of Missouri from 1977 until 1982. Emmett served as the President of Missouri Sheriff's Association, special investigator for the State of Missouri Senate in 1981 & 1982 and from 1985 until 1996. He was a real estate salesman and broker from 1984 to 2014.

In addition to his wife Alice, he is survived by his children James W. Fairfax (Leslie) and Judy A. Harrell (Greg), all of Sedalia, and Joseph W. Fairfax (Jennifer), of Prairie Village, Kansas; five grandchildren, Miles, Quinton, Elise, Morgan, and Kyle; two step grandchildren, Alex and Andrew; a brother, George Fairfax (Peggy); a sister Virginia Martin (Jesse) all of Sedalia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse E. Fairfax, Jr. and a brother in infancy, David Fairfax.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, Celebration Center, Sedalia, MO with Rev Jim Downing, officiating.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, September 22, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, Celebration Center, Sedalia, MO.

Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, MO with full military honors conducted by the Sedalia VFW Post #2591 and US Marine Corps.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Don Fairfax, William Rissler, Doug Rundlett, Tom Fairfax, Dale Rundlett, Andrew Fairfax, and John Martin.

Honorary bearers will be Adam Fischer, Gary Fleming, Kenneth Dake, Mark Kempton, Jim Mathewson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg or to First United Methodist Church, Sedalia, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
