Obituary For Emilio Fischman

Emilio N. Fischman, 72, of Sedalia died Monday, October 28, 2013 at his home following a long illness. He was born on December 16, 1940 to the late Olga Heller Fischman and Leon Fischman in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In Orangeburg, New York on October 15, 1993, he was married to Ellen Moore, who survives of the home. He was a professor of mathematics at University of the South in Playa Blanca, Argentina. In 1967, he came to New York to work at the United Nations as a translator from French to Spanish. He retired from the United Nations in 1998, and in 2001 the couple moved from Palisades, New York to Sedalia, Missouri. A voracious reader and lover of classical music, he was noted for his keen intelligence, kindness, gentleness, quick wit, and tireless work obtaining equal rights and opportunities for both men and woman, as well as for his work with rescue animals. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Raymond C. Hicks and his wife Laura Elva Hicks, and two grandchildren—Austin Patricia and Margaret Taylor Patricia. Private celebrations of life with family and close friends will be held at a later date.
