Obituary for Elwin Leroy Ball

Elwin (Jerry) Leroy Ball, 74, of Houstonia passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019 at his home in Houstonia, MO. He was born in Douglas, Wyoming on March 13, 1945, the son of DeForest Ball and Doris (Novotny) Ball, who preceded him in death. On February 20, 1994 in Las Vegas, NV, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Sue Tuggle, who resides of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, David Ball (Pam) of LaMonte, John Ball of Houstonia, Joseph Arnold (Julie) of LaMonte, Ben Arnold (Heather) of Concordia, Rhonda Morrill (Toby) of Windsor, and Andy Arnold of Houstonia; twelve grandchildren, Katelynn, Brison, Kilee, Marcus, Brandon, Tiffany, Payton, Bradley, Hailey, Logan, Mayson, Madison; two brothers, Larry Ball (Pat) of Lincoln, NE and Jeff Ball (Teresa) of Stromsburg, NE; two step brothers, Norm Flesner (Sandy) of Lewiston, NE and Mark Flesner (Kim) of Lewiston, NE; a step sister, Pam Schroeder (Ed) of Blair, NE. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, two sons, Christopher and Logan Ball; a granddaughter, Marie Hope Ball.

Jerry was a 1963 graduate of Columbus Senior High School in Columbus, Nebraska. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy for six years during the Vietnam War. He later joined the Missouri Army National Guard where he served for ten years. He worked for Gardner-Denver 26 years and for Hayes-Lemmerz for 11 years. After retirement he drove a school bus for public school districts.

Jerry was a member of the Houstonia Baptist Church. Jerry enjoyed bowling, playing cards, watching sports, going square dancing, traveling and telling his famous ghost story. He was an avid Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan, but his favorite team was the Nebraska Corn Huskers. Jerry had a great big smile and was a friend to many people.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Rea Funeral Chapel with Rev. Logan Patrick officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Burial will be at Houstonia Cemetery, Houstonia, MO. with full military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard and Sedalia VFW Post #2591.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and honorary Pallbearers will be his granddaughters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
