Obituary For Edna Ramey

Edna "Sissy" Marian Ramey, 84, passed away on March 10, 2024, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. She was born in Sedalia on August 2, 1939, to James Van and Winnie Amanda Swope Ramey.

She was the youngest of seven children. Edna attended grade school at Hopewell School until it was consolidated with the Hughesville School District during the 1951 - 52 school term. She graduated from Hughesville High School in 1957.

Edna was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church for nearly 70 years, having been baptized on June 27, 1954, with several other family members. She enjoyed youth programs there and later taught Sunday School and helped with Vacation Bible School.

Edna worked for many years at Archie's Seed Store and Lamy's Manufacturing and retired from Tyson Foods Inc.

She spent much of her life living at home with her parents and caring for them in their old age. When her parents passed away, she left the farm north of Sedalia, moved into town, and bought her own home. Edna was very proud of her house and yard. She did her own mowing and maintained her house up until her death. Her yard was manicured to a park-like setting with beautiful flowers and statues decorated everywhere. Edna was small but feisty. She mastered every job she attempted. She was an excellent cook who always ensured you had a smorgasbord to choose from when you ate at her house.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, James Laurence "Chub" Ramey, Robert Franklin Ramey, and Donald Lee Ramey, Sr.; and her three sisters, Mary Bernice "Dollie" Phillips, Hazel Marie Hieronymus, and Rosella "Bud" Mehrens.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews, many of whom were with her when she passed, as well as many great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., at Rea Funeral Chapel, 3510 W. 16th St., with pastor Dan Dickey officiating.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral chapel.

The burial will follow at Mr. Herman Cemetery, north of Sedalia.

Her nephews, Larry Ramey, Robbie Ramey, Bob Ramey, Don Ramey, Jr., Richard Ramey, Jim Mehrens. and Jim Hieronymus will be pallbearers.

Honorary bearers will be her nieces, Judy Rhoads, Mary Alice Shull, Linda Johnson, Rose Ann Stock, Barbara Snow, Alma McFail, Elaine Bishop, Sara Ramey-McMaster, and Shirley Jennings.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hopewell Baptist Church in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
