Obituary For Edna Mae Abney

Edna Mae Abney, 89, of Sedalia, MO left this world on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born on December 27, 1931, in Sedalia, the daughter of Arthur C. Kroeger and Gladys (Rice) Kroeger, who preceded her in death.

On December 8, 1950, in Sedalia she was united in marriage to Arba Guy Abney, who preceded her in death on August 3, 2008.

Edna dedicated her life to the Lord which led her to teaching many children in many areas of ministries at New Hope Baptist Church. She was also a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Edna attended and graduated from Striped College Elementary School and she was a 1949 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. She attended Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, MO. She was a teacher at Liberty School in 1949 - 50. She worked at Southwestern Bell in Sedalia. Edna returned to school and graduated from State Fair Community College with an Associates Degree in Deaf Education. She taught deaf education at the Children's Therapy Center, Heber Hunt, Horace Mann, Skyline, Parkview, and the Sedalia School District #200. Edna helped to establish mainstreaming hearing impaired children into the Sedalia public school system.

Her loves were serving in many positions at New Hope Baptist Church, including the bus ministry, NTO, children's ministry, youth ministry, and VBS. Edna loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, gardening, painting, sewing, and crafts. She especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include three sons, Myron Andrew Abney of Otterville, MO, Christopher Lee Abney of Smithton, MO, and Mark Allen Abney (Lori) of Clinton, MO; 11 grandchildren, Bryan Abney, Michele McCormick (Justin), Carrissa Thorpe (Kenzie), Luke Abney (Jessica), Jesse Jo Eason (Derek), Drew Abney, Ryan Jennings (Mindy), and Cheyenne Blankenship; 11 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mina Williams of Sedalia, Joyce Bass of Sedalia, and Patsy Harrison (Michael) of Sedalia, MO.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur C. Kroeger, Jr. and a sister, Norma Gayle Collier.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2021 at Green Ridge Cemetery with Pastor Duane Duchesne officiating. Due to extreme heat, it is suggested that all who plan to attend bring an umbrella for sun protection and a lawn chair if you wish to sit down during the service.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Womble, Kenzie Thorpe, Justin McCormick, Luke Abney, Ryan Jennings, Drew Abney, Bryan Abney, and Derek Eason.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church or to the Sedalia Children's Therapy Center in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
