Edna F. Barnes

Edna F Barnes, 91, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023, at Warrensburg Manor in Warrensburg, MO. She was born on December 6, 1931, in Sedalia, MO, the daughter of Joseph Gehlken and Lula (Williams) Gehlken, who preceded her in death.

On September 23, 1950, in Sedalia, MO, she was united in marriage to Raymond H. Barnes, who preceded her in death on May 15, 1985.

Edna was a wonderful mother who always put others ahead of her needs. She is in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus, and is having a wonderful homecoming to see her family again. Edna was a well-loved member of two churches, Flat Creek Baptist Church and East Sedalia Baptist Church. She was a very strong Christian woman who lived out her faith in very tangible ways.

Edna loved her children and grandchildren well. She made sure we were in church; she lived the Gospel before us. She was a room mother in elementary school. She loved her grandkids immensely. Edna loved the farm and was not afraid to get dirty! They had a "hobby" farm, and she shared her love of land and home with her family. When not mowing or painting fences, she was helping neighbors. Edna was a part of the Extension Club and worked at Smith-Cotton High School in food service. She loved to bake, cook, and can the produce from the farm.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff Barnes (Michele) of Clermont, FL and Jim Barnes (Gerri) of Andover, KS; a daughter, Julie Paul (Jeff) of Mayview, MO; eleven grandchildren, Adam (Brenda), Katie, Dale (Olya), Morgan (Crista), Laura, Lynn, Jason (Kiley), Andrea (Philip), Joshua (Dixie), Jacob (Becky), and Jordan (Ian); 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Clara Moore of Sedalia.

In addition to her husband and parents, Edna was preceded in death by an infant son, Ronnie Barnes; a son John Barnes; and her second husband, Charlie Palmer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Rea Funeral Chapel with Dr. Jeff Paul officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel.

The burial will be at Flat Creek Cemetery, Sedalia, MO.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Paul, Jacob Paul, Jason Barnes, Alex Parkhurst, Ben Embree, and Scott Fields.
