Edith Lorene DeLapp Nutt, age 103, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2013 in Cole Camp. She was born on July 12, 1909 in rural La Monte, the daughter of Joseph Sydney DeLapp and Mary Stella Bobbit DeLapp. She was married on June 10, 1939 in Houstonia to Claude “Shockey” Nutt , who preceded her in death on September 26, 1979.
Mrs. Nutt attended the teacher’s college in Warrensburg and worked as a teacher for one year. She was a long time resident of Houstonia where she was a member of the Community Church of Houstonia and worked at a general store and the local post office.
Edith is survived by many nieces and nephews who go all the way to great, great, great nieces and nephews. She was a beloved aunt who was admired for her fine sense of humor and graciousness. Edith enjoyed reading, quilting, crocheting, playing the piano, working on crosswords, and visiting with friends and relatives. She enjoyed baking and was famous within her family for making the best chocolate chip cookies ever. Edith also liked to play board games, and she was hard to beat at Rummikub and Scrabble! She will be long remembered and greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched in her remarkable 103 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers: Sydney DeLapp, A.J. DeLapp, Robert DeLapp, Walker DeLapp, and Donald DeLapp and four sisters; Lillian DeLapp, Edna Mildred “Mid” Stapley, Marian Malloy and Nell Fry.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, with Rev. Ted Francis officiating.
Burial will be in Houstonia Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Gebhart, Kearn McCullough, David McCullough, Delmar Fisher, Jerry Stapley and Danny Fisher.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Houstonia Cemetery Association.
