Obituary For Edgar Phelps

Edgar Lee Phelps Jr., 92, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center, where he had been residing since September. He was born on February 2, 1924 in Springfield, MO, the son of Edgar Lee and Dora Lena Mae (Bridges) Phelps Sr., who preceded him in death.

Most of Mr. Phelps' young years were spent in Sedalia, where he attended Broadway Elementary School and graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1943. Immediately following graduation he was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country honorably in World War II from August 1943 to January 1946. Mr. Phelps was a proud veteran who loved his country. Upon his return home, he began his life long profession as a carpenter tradesman. Then on January 30, 1953 in Springfield, MO he was united in marriage to Betty M. Hall, who preceded him in death on October 18, 1997. Edgar and Betty worked side by side together for 44 years in all they did.

Edgar's long life allowed him to share many enriching stories of his life. He will be dearly missed by his family.

Survivors include two nieces, Linda Cairer (John) of Oak Grove, MO. and Cindee Vaughan (Tim) of Harper, TX; two nephews, Steven J. Bridges of Kansas City, MO and Chris Semkin (SuAnn) of Kansas City, MO; several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a niece, Sylvia M. Reynolds; a sister, Sylvia M. Banner; and a brother, James W. Phelps.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, with Rev. Dan Hankins officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia.

Pallbearers will be Todd Cairer, Chad Cairer, Logan Cairer, Landon Cairer, Mason Cairer, Carson Cairer, Robert Reynolds and Matthew Semkin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or Crossroads Hospice in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
