Dorothy Fay Norfleet

Dorothy Fay Norfleet, 88, of Sedalia, MO, formerly of Houstonia, MO, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia. She was born on April 4, 1936, in Sweet Springs, MO, the daughter of Arnold Bredehoeft and Freida (Alpers) Bredehoeft, who preceded her in death.

On May 26, 1956, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Emma, MO, she was united in marriage to Robert Dale Norfleet Sr., who resides in the home.

Dorothy enjoyed tending to her flower beds, restoring the farmhouse and furniture, collecting Barbies for her "Barbie Room," traveling across the country (especially to Branson), and attending her grandchildren's activities. She was a life time member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Emma, MO, where she was baptized on April 26, 1936 by Pastor H.C. Harting and confirmed on April 2, 1950, by Pastor William Hepting. Dorothy was involved with the Prairie Ridge 4-H, where she served as a project leader in sewing and cooking. She was also involved with the Prairie Ridge Extension Club. Additionally, she was an active member of the Pettis County R-V PTO, a Sorosis club member in Sedalia, and a dedicated voting poll worker for many years.

Dorothy worked 27 years with the U.S. Postal Service in Marshall, MO, as a mail carrier and clerk.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by one son, Robert Norfleet Jr. (Sharee) of Houstonia, MO; three daughters, Jennifer Schlender (Robert) of Sedalia, MO, Janna McQueen (Randy) of Sedalia, MO, and Janel Locke of Houstonia, MO; one sister, Janice Howard (Gary) of California, MO; ten grandchildren, Rori Comstock (Scott), Mallory Norfleet, Ryan Schlender (Cindy), Meredith Beykirch (John), Matthew Locke (Jessi), Megan Underwood (Blake), Mary Paige Wilson (Andrew), Caitlyn McQueen, Morgan Locke (Cori), and Mason Locke; sixteen great-grandchildren, Marion and Tyler Comstock, Ainsley Schlender, Whitley and Hadley Underwood, Elliot and Tatum Locke, Robert "Bo" Wilson, Austin, Alec, and Ashley Sloan, Alyssa and Matt Hudson, Alexus and Heston White, and baby Locke in March; three great-great-grandchildren, Lucas and Cayden Sloan, and Reagan Hudson; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Bredehoeft of Sedalia, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by one son, Ricky Allen Norfleet; one daughter, Cynthia Sue Norfleet; five brothers, Eldred Bredehoeft, Lawayne Bredehoeft, Edgar Bredehoeft, Wallace Bredehoeft, and Homer Bredehoeft; three sisters, Elva Bredehoeft, Frances Evert, Wilma Driver, and one granddaughter, Marissa McQueen.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Emma, with Pastors Jeremy Freeman and Andrew Tessone officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.

The burial will be at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, Emma, MO.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Schlender, Matthew Locke, Morgan Locke, Mason Locke, Scott Comstock, Blake Underwood, Andrew Wilson, and John Beykirch.

Honorary bearers will be Janice and Gary Howard, Rick and Lonna Arnold, Clark and Larue Higgins, Robert and Sharon Gregory, Grandchildren, Great and Great-Great Grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Sunday School/Church or Show-Me Christian Youth Home in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
