Dorothy Evelyn Garber, 91, of Sedalia, peacefully passed away at her home on October 3, 2024. Born on August 20, 1933, in Ewing, MO, she was the beloved daughter of William Allen and Bessie (Braden) Allen, who both predeceased her.
On April 17, 1972, Dorothy married Charles Chris Garber Jr. in Miami, OK; he also preceded her in death on September 3, 2015. A dedicated member of New Hope Baptist Church, she devoted years to volunteering with children, reflecting her deep compassion and love for the younger generation. Evelyn spent many years working at Rival Manufacturing and later found joy as a daycare provider from her home. Her passions included birdwatching, reading, fishing, and gardening. A true sports enthusiast, she cherished watching Royals games alongside her husband.
Evelyn is survived by her three sons: Daniel Paxton of Smithton, Thomas Paxton (Billie Jo) of Sedalia, and John Paxton of Sedalia; nine grandchildren: Adam, Jedidiah, Noah, Christa, Ryan, Rebecca, Christopher, Heather, and Jacob; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Robert Paxton; three brothers, Grant, William, and Harold Allen; and two sisters, Mildred Allen and Margaret Cranfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Duane Duchesne officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Dresden Cemetery, Dresden, MO.
Honorary bearers will be Bill Vance, John Schmidt, Adam Nevels, Virgil Nunes, Beryl McCoy, and John Arnwine.
In honor of her legacy, memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church through Rea Funeral Chapel. Evelyn's kindness and love will be cherished by all who knew her.
