Doris Mae Register

July 26, 1933 — August 11, 2024

Doris Mae Register, 91, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Cole Camp, MO. She was born on July 26, 1933, in Sedalia, the daughter of Eddie Alonzo Busker and Minnie Lee (Davis) Busker, who preceded her in death. Her loving husband C.A. Register, Jr. resides in their home in Conyers, GA.

Doris was raised in Sedalia with her parents and five siblings. Her father was a blacksmith in town and a hard worker. Doris worked at the family store and gas station growing up. Doris shared, "When daddy slaughtered a pig to feed the family, we ate everything but the oink!" In her teenage years, Doris and her two cousins performed at their home church, Doris sang and played the accordion and vibraharp and later the organ and piano.

On August 19, 1952, in Sedalia, she married J.D. Sherman, to whom three children were born: Larry, Debra, and Roger. Faith was a major part of the entire family's life, Doris worked outside the home at times but was a true homemaker and gifted in hospitality. In 1966, an old bowling alley on 2nd street was turned into a house of worship becoming Calvary Temple Church. After years of growth, they broke ground to build a new facility at 1501 Driftwood Drive and later established ACE Christian School. Doris and J.D. purchased Memorial Park and Highland Sacred Gardens Cemeteries in Sedalia. During this time Doris began her own flower and grave blanket business in the late 1980s called "Flower World".

In the early 2000's Doris moved to Jefferson City, MO where she was an active member of Solid Rock Church. She later became a credentialed minister with Anchor Bay Evangelistic Association and ministered locally as well as traveling with Nancy Harmon Ministries from time to time.

On January 5, 2007 at age 73, in Jefferson City, MO, Doris was united in marriage to Reverend C.A. Register, Jr and moved to Conyers, GA. C.A., a retired minister with Church of God, was ministering time to time in the church he and Doris attended but in 2009, Doris and C.A. came out of retirement and joined the staff at Conyers Church of God as the Senior Adult Ministry Pastors. Doris and C.A. regularly hosted their seniors for luncheons, holiday dinners, day trips and their annual 3-day bus trips to places like The Ark in Kentucky and the Holy Land Experience in Florida. Doris and C.A. made ministry visits to hospitals and nursing homes and homebound seniors and served on the Retired Ministers Activity Board at the State Level. Doris and C.A. ministered together for 15-years, but after some lingering health challenges Doris came back to Missouri in 2023, and resided at Good Samaritan Care Center in Cole Camp. C.A. made regular trips to Missouri for weeks at a time to be with his bride until her death.

In addition to her husband C.A., Doris is survived by three children, Larry Sherman (Karen) of Centertown, MO, Debra Bottcher (Terry) and Roger Sherman (Teresa), both of Sedalia; two stepsons, Darrell Register (Christi) of Covington, GA and Alan Register (Debbie) of Waynesboro, GA; eight grandchildren, Chancey, Apryle, Angela, David, Jason, Gabrielle, Marsha, and Ehan; and a total of 46, great and great-great-grandchildren.
