Doris Jean Kettner, 91, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at E.W. Thompson Health and Rehabilitation Center in Sedalia. She was born on June 18, 1925 in Emporia, KS, the daughter of Ernest and Mary (Mood) Witherspoon, who preceded her in death.
On October 28, 1947 in Emporia, KS, she was united in marriage to Ernest Lawrence Kettner, who preceded her in death on October 18, 2016.
Doris was a 1943 graduate of Emporia, KS High School and later graduated from Kansas State Teacher's College. She and her husband Ernest were founding members of Christ Lutheran Church and later became members of Our Savior Lutheran Church. She worked for TG&Y in Kansas City and later in Sedalia until closing. She worked for the Sedalia Credit Bureau before retiring. After retiring she enjoyed cross stitching, quilting and traveling the country with Ernie in their fifth wheel trailer.
Doris is survived by a son, Keith Kettner and his wife Pam of Sedalia; a daughter, Joyce Sims and her significant other, John Sederburg of Nixa, MO; five grandchildren, Joshua and Kristina Kettner, Mary Kettner, Jason Sims, Patrick and Ashley Sims, Scott Sims; and a great granddaughter, Jenna Sims.
Besides her parents she is also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Witherspoon
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. next Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Andrew Tessone and Pastor Chris Kellogg officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Crossroads Hospice in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
