Obituary For Donald Joe Chapin

Donald Joe Chapin, 90, of Sedalia, MO passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. He was born on August 27, 1931 in Rushville, MO the son of Hiram F. Chapin and Lillie B. (Woolston) Chapin, who preceded him in death.

On October 5, 1969, in Saigon, Vietnam, he was united in marriage to Marie J. Saguerre, who resides in the home.

Donald was a 1949 graduate of West Platte High School, Weston, MO. After graduation, he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. He had a love for aircraft. Donald served as a supervisor of aircraft mechanics with a military contracting company. His work took him to all parts of the world including, Vietnam, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Italy, Bosnia, and Turkey. Donald was a member of the Weston, MO VFW Post and Sedalia VFW Post #2591 where he served as Quarter Master. He was also a life member of the Sedalia American Legion Post #642 and the Sedalia 40 & 8.

Donald enjoyed doing crossword puzzles out of the newspaper, hunting, fishing, collecting duck memorabilia, being outdoors, and wood working. He especially love spending time with his family and friends. Donald loved life and always made the best out of everything.

Along with his wife, he is survived by two children, Amina Hanna (Matthew) of Bath, ME, and Fred Chapin of Sedalia; six grandchildren, Gavin, Trevor, Libby, Noah, Alley, and Chloe; two great-grandchildren, Arabelle and Leland; a sister, Winifred Taulbee of Platte City, MO.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn Chapin and Elmer Chapin; and a great-grandson, Xavier Pena.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Burial will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO, with full military honors conducted by Whiteman Air Force Base Honors Team and Sedalia VFW Post #2591.

Pallbearers will be Fred Chapin, Noah Chapin, Rafael Pena, Tom Taulbee, Brad Taulbee, and Brett Sorrell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sedalia VFW Post #2591 in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
