Dennis Ray Nicholson

Dennis Ray Nicholson, age 71, of Sedalia, MO, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024, at The Living Center in Marshall, MO. Born on April 11, 1953, in Sedalia, he was the son of Gerald and Katheryn (Jones) Nicholson, both of whom preceded him in death.

A proud graduate of La Monte High School, Class of 1971, Dennis dedicated his career to the automotive field as a skilled mechanic, working at Philips Automotive, Nicholson Garage, Bill Greer Ford, and Bryant Motors. His love for racing was a defining part of his life; he drove for the Nicholson Racing Team for four thrilling years and later enjoyed competing at local dirt track speedways. Dennis had a keen interest in collecting model cars, slot cars, and anything related to racing. He also cherished attending Renaissance fairs and was an avid reader, particularly enjoying J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

Dennis is survived by his two daughters, Heather Marie Hughes and Emily Marie Nicholson, both of Dresden; his three sisters, Jeri Uptegrove (Donald) of Dresden, Patty Hopkins of Sedalia, and Judy Young (Mark) of Kansas City, MO; and his brother, Michael Nicholson (Marilyn) of Dresden. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Abigail and Arlo Hughes; a brother-in-law, Steve Conrad of Sunrise Beach, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his sister, Cindy Nicholson-Conrad.

A graveside service and burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Dresden Cemetery in Dresden, MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dresden Cemetery Association, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
