David A. Goldsmith, 76, of Sedalia, went to be with the Lord on March 25, 2018 at his home. He was born on July 26, 1941, in Sedalia, the son of John S. and Allie (Beard) Goldsmith, who preceded him in death.
David graduated from Smith Cotton High School in 1959. On September 15, 1963, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Betty Kempf, who resides of the home.
In 1964, David began working for UPS as a delivery driver. He retired from UPS in 1994 after 30 years. After retiring, he worked for several years part time at the State Fair Floral company. David enjoyed woodworking and crafts. He enjoyed getting together monthly for luncheons with other retired UPS workers. He also met monthly for luncheons with his classmates of 1959. David served on the Sedalia Traffic Advisory Board.
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he was very active. He held many offices in the church over the years including president of the congregation, vice president, and member of the board of elders. David also helped operate the audio system and radio ministry broadcasts at the church for over 30 years. He and Betty assisted in delivering Meals on Wheels for several years.
David was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John C. Goldsmith; and sister in-law, Francis Goldsmith. David is survived by his wife, Betty Goldsmith of the home; son Kevin Goldsmith of Kansas City; his niece, Vickie Rudd of Sedalia; his nephew, Steve Goldsmith and wife Susie of Sedalia; his nephew, Justin Gant of Scottsdale, AZ; his great niece, Christy Goldsmith of Columbia; and his sister in-law, Debbie Gant of Sedalia.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Andrew Tessone officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be John C. Rucker, Don Meier, A.J. Heck, Justin Gant, Steve Goldsmith, Chris Castro, and Melvin Garrett. Honorary pallbearers will be all the retired UPS drivers of Sedalia. Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church radio ministry in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
