Charles "Chuck" Richard Matz, 74, of Sedalia passed away Monday, January 18, 2021 at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. He was born on January 4, 1947 in Waseca, MN the son of Stanley Matz and Dorothy (Fennert) Matz, who preceded him in death.
On May 6, 1967 in Elgin, MN he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Wehrs, who preceded him in death on March 1, 2018.
Chuck was a 1965 graduate of Central High School in Waseca, MN where he was active in FFA and the School Crossing Patrol. As a young man he became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca. He and his sister Karen walked to church every Sunday. Chuck was active in the Walther Youth Group at church and served every Sunday as an Usher. After high school he enlisted in the Army National Guard and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Chuck worked on the assembly line for Owatonna Manufacturing Company and later became a trouble shooter for the company and traveled all over the country. In 1974 he took a position as a Sales Representative for the company for the State of Missouri. Later in his sales career he sold for Kewanee Manufacturing Co. and Bush Hog Manufacturing. Chuck had a long and successful sales career retiring in 2008. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and going to the coffee shop every morning with his buddies. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Mary going on cruises, traveling across the country, going to Hawaii and most recently, in the last few of years, going on family vacations with his kids and grandkids to both Disney Parks in California and Florida and going to Sea Side, FL., for number of years, going to Branson. Chuck loved taking trips to Minnesota to visit family. He especially loved spending time with his sons and grandchildren. Coaching and watching his grandchildren in their sporting and numerous other activities.
Chuck in survived by two sons, Scott Matz (Melissa) and Craig Matz (Sheri), all of Sedalia; seven grandchildren, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Andrew, Caroline, Destiny, Amanda, and Alex; six great grandchildren, Reighlyn, Rozzlyn, Ryla, Dawson, Benjamin, and Lucas; two sisters, Karen Berg of Waseca, MN and Connie Krause (David) of Holmen, WI.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle Lilly and Ferdinand Sommers.
A private family service will be held at 11:00 a.m., following the visitation with Pastor Andrew Tessone officiating.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time at Our Savior Lutheran Church Gymnasium. The family requests that everyone entering church wear a mask and social distance.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia, MO.
Pallbearers will be Destiny Matz, Kathleen Matz, Amanda Matz, Elizabeth Matz, Alex Matz, Andrew Matz, Caroline Matz.
Honorary bearers will be Dean Schnakenberg, Terry Ryan, Bob Williams, Herschel Cantrell, Gene Ferguson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church Radio Ministry or to the Bothwell Cannon Cancer Center in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
The Matz family would like to thank Bothwell Regional Health Center 3 Southwest and Cannon Cancer center doctors, nurses, and staff for all the amazing care that was provided to their Dad.
