Bobby Joe Simms, 64, of Olathe, KS, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 at Olathe Medical Center. He was born on March 4, 1950 in Sedalia, MO, a son of John W. and Viola (Frazier) Simms, who preceded him in death. On August 17, 1985 in Butler, MO, he was united in marriage to Sinda Potts, who survives of the home. Bobby loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them, especially at celebrations and family gatherings. He also enjoyed playing pool. He competed in numerous tournaments and everyone always wanted him on their team. He loved sports of all kinds, and especially enjoyed boxing. Bobby was a member of Four Square Gospel Spiritual Church in Sedalia. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Darwin Potts of Olathe, KS; one daughter, Bobbi Potts of Olathe, KS; two sisters, Kathryn Kent of Hill Side, NJ, and Almeda Taylor of Sedalia; six grandchildren, Esperanza, Déandria, Déausha, Serenity, Shaun, and Xavier; and one great-grandson, Da'Kyin. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Edda Mae Cole; and five brothers, John Edward Simms, Marshall Simms, Bert Moody, Lincoln Moody, and Earl Wayne Simms. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Free Will Baptist Church in Sedalia, MO, with Bishop Calvin Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church for a visitation one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Rodney Scroggins, Earl Scroggins, LA Bogges, Alonzo Potts, Sr., Paul Buckner, and Gary Jackson. Honorary bearers will be Jeffery Taylor, Rodney Potts, Ement Potts, Sr., and Eddie Scroggins. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society in care of Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, MO.
