Bill Joe Griffith Sr., 84, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Friday, March 17, 2023, at Tipton Oaks Nursing Home in Tipton, MO. He was born on March 2, 1939, in Sedalia, a son of Loren V. and Henrietta M. (Moon) Griffith, who preceded him in death.
On March 6, 1960, in Sedalia, MO, he was united in marriage to Georgie Bernice Corson, who preceded him in death on June 3, 2016.
Bill was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Sedalia. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and Army Reserve. He was an employee of the City of Sedalia for roughly 20 years and an employee of Coca-Cola for 30. He served as a Chaplain for Pettis County Corrections and enjoyed spreading the word of God to all those around him. He enjoyed working on small engine repairs and could almost always be found at home tinkering on something. Though he had many contributions to his community, one that he was most proud of was starting the rodeo at the Missouri State Fair for the disabled.
Bill is survived by his two children, Billy Joe Griffith, Jr. of Versailles, MO, and Linda Noble (Scott) of Sedalia; two brothers, Bob Griffith of Montgomery City, MO, and Larry Griffith (Martine) of Troy, MO; as well as three grandchildren, Dylan (Sarah), Carter (Tiffany), and Marshall Noble.
In addition to his wife and parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Louella Bennett of Colorado.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Don Satterwhite officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.
The burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, MO.
Pallbearers will be Sam Hargrave, Kevin Bond, Donnie Hayworth, Traves Williams, Brent Stepheson, and Roger Vieth
Honorary pallbearers will be Walt Sands, John Griffith, Harold Frazier, Gary Goff, Billy Garrigus, and Raymond "Heavy" McNish.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
