Obituary For Betty Thompson

Betty Rose Thompson, 88, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Cole Camp, Missouri. She was born on November 8, 1928 in Sedalia, the daughter of Walter C. and Mable Jane (Brauer) Cramer, who preceded her in death.

She was united in marriage to Charles W. Thompson, who preceded her in death.

Betty Rose started the Broadway Lanes Bowling Alley, built by her father, in 1958. She and her family operated the bowling alley for many years. Every Thanksgiving, for 30 years, a benefit was held for the Children’s Therapy Center at the bowling alley. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church downtown, and a member of Business and Professional Women. Betty Rose enjoyed animals, especially dogs, going to the Missouri State Fair with her grandchildren, listening to music, and dancing. Holidays were very special to Betty Rose. She was known to invite anyone that had no place to go for Christmas dinner into her home.

She is survived by two sons, Chip Thompson and his wife Pam, and Mark Thompson and his companion Lisa Sell all of Sedalia; four grandchildren, Dana Goosen (Dustin), Madeline Kempton (Sam), Charli Jo Darbyshire (Jamin), and Nick Thompson; and six great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her longtime companion Bill Ray.

Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church Celebration Center with Pastor Jim Downing, Jr. officiating.

Family visitation will be from 12:00 until service time at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sedalia Animal Shelter in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
