Elizabeth “Betty” Schroeder, 90, of Sedalia passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center, Sedalia. She was born on February 9, 1924 in Lansing, MI, a daughter of John and Louise (Marshall) Ellis, who preceded her in death.
On April 2, 1944, she was united in marriage to C. Wray Schroeder, who preceded her in death October 26, 1997.
She graduated in 1943 from Central Missouri Teachers College, Warrensburg. Betty was store manager at Roth’s Department Store, Sedalia, for many years, retiring in 1990. She enjoyed flowers, reading, playing cards and spending time with her friends. Betty and Wray loved traveling the country together in search of antiques. Betty especially loved all things family. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the numerous young people she took under her wing, all benefited from her love and warmth. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Sedalia, Order of The Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by four children, Carol McMillin (Mac) of Sedalia, Linda Reed (Jim) of Springfield, MO, Beth Howard of Papillion, NE and Kevin Schroeder (Kim) of Sedalia; one sister, Penny Riley (Jim) of FL; eight grandchildren, Jamie (Stephanie), Matt (Jennifer), Travis (Brooke), Kelly (Curtis), Kate, Kelsey, Cameron and Jill and thirteen great grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, David Steele.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia with Rev. Dan Hankins officiating.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Bragg; grandsons, Jamie and Matt Reed, Travis Spencer, Cameron Schroeder; and great grandsons, Nicholas, Spencer and Christopher O’Neil.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Child Safe of Mid Missouri or Charity of donor’s choice.
