Betty "Sue" Cromley, 95, of Sedalia, MO, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia. She was born on September 30, 1928, in Carrollton, MO, the daughter of Otho Copeland Sutton and Linnie Lee (Whetzel) Sutton, who preceded her in death.
On August 4, 1946, in Marshall, MO, she was united in marriage to Glen "June" Cromley, who preceded her in death on May 10, 2001.
She was a 1944 graduate of Slater High School, Slater, MO, and attended Missouri Valley College, Marshall, MO. Sue was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class. Sue was also a children's Sunday school teacher. Sue moved to Sedalia in 1956 and became an advocate for the Crippled Children's Center located in the basement of Bothwell Hospital, which is now known as the Center for Human Services. She remained active with them as long as she was able. Sue was active in PTA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Sheltered Workshop. Sue would always be the first to volunteer for anything that involved her children.
Sue enjoyed playing games, baking, cooking, sewing, and reading murder mystery novels when she had time while watching TV and listening to ball games on the radio. Her passion was baking bread and passing it on to her family.
Sue is survived by six children, Glen Lee Cromley of Sedalia, MO, Ellen K. Cable (Don) of Sedalia, MO, Phillip M. Cromley (Nancy) of Marshall, MO, Kenneth E. Cromley (Brenda) of Sedalia, MO, Carolyn S. Starke (Jerry Kirchhoff) of Sedalia, MO, and David W. Cromley (Rebecca) of Sugar Grove, IL; twenty-two grandchildren, Brian Mahalovich (Julie), Kena Butz (Casey), Keri Barnes, Brandon Mahlovich, Cami Nettekoven, Amy Miller (Gary), Mandi Bolling (Andy), Julie Pointer (Nick), Jerry Martin (Amy), Kurt Cromley (Whitney), Stacey Greer, Tabitha Kehde (Roger), Christopher Dedrick, Brooke Dedrick (Brian Snead), Ariel Starke (Michael Thanos), Jonathan Starke, James Cromley (Caitlin), Caitlin Farmer (Justin), Rachel Stone, Drew Stone, Courtney Stone, and Colleen Stone; 45 great-grandchildren, Maggi, Matthew, Molli, Myah, Maverick, Hunter, Keely, Zachary, KJay, Zekiah, Genesis, Eli, Naomi, Avalon, Salah, Kelsie, Connor, Casey, Kynslie, Aubrey, Adilynn, Ayson, Annley, Bryce, Grace, Crystal, Kayla, Zach, Wyatt, Allie, Drennen, Harper, Bayler, Madison, Lakin, Honor, Edson, Jordon, Athena, Scarlett, Calvin, River, Owen, Avery, and Ainsley; 23 great-great-grandchildren and three on the way.
In addition to her husband and parents, Sue was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Milton, and Lowell Sutton; two sisters, Wilma Olson and Margaret Waters; and one grandson, Chad Cable.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dennis Harper officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024.
The burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, MO.
Pallbearers will be Brian Mahalovich, Brandon Mahalovich, Kurt Cromley, Christopher Dedrick, James Cromley, and Jonathon Starke .
Honorary bearers will be the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Human Services in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
