Obituary For Bennie Wood Schaberg

Bennie Wood Schaberg, 82, of Sedalia passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Country Club Care Center of Warrensburg, MO. He was born on September 11, 1935 in Sedalia, MO the son of Kenneth Wood and Verna Lucille (Thompson) Schaberg, who preceded him in death.

On April19, 1958, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Betty (Homan) Hart, they later divorced, residing in Sedalia. Through this union, he had a daughter, Cindy Askins (Lanny) of Warrensburg; a son, Rick Schaberg of Sedalia and a grandson, Chris Schaberg.

Bennie served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1952 until 1956, during this time his was stationed in Japan for two years. He was a 30 year member of the Sedalia American Legion Post # 642. He worked in the parts department at Bill Greer Ford for 45 years, retiring in 2008. Bennie especially enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas with his good buddy, Buzz DeHaven. He was an avid Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR. Bennie will be missed by those he stopped by to visit daily on his trips around town in his white Ford Fusion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Schaberg.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2018 at Crown Hill Cemetery with Leora Bremer officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside by VFW Post #2591 and Whiteman Air Force Base Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from Noon until 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2108 at Rea Funeral Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Bear Griffith, Rondo Young, Randy Goodman, Bob Ramey, Wayne Simon and Bill Talbott.

Honorary bearers will be Bill Almquist, Donald Lemler and Jason Mabrey.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
