Obituary For Ann Pearl Rumsey

Ann "Pearl" Rumsey, 87, of Sedalia, MO passed away Monday, August 2, 2021 at her son's home in Kansas City, MO. She was born on December 8, 1933 in Caraway, AR the daughter of Wayne and Pauline (Née Pickens) DuBose, who preceded her in death.

As a child during the depression years, Pearl’s parents were migrant cotton farmers who moved among several communities in the cotton region of northeast Arkansas and the Missouri Boot-heel; her father also taught at several schools.

Shortly after the start of World War II opportunity led her family to relocate to Hastings, NE to work at a military ammunition factory. Through the 1940’s she and her siblings grew to be adults, and it was in Hastings that she met her husband. Guy and Pearl were joined in marriage December 27, 1950 in Adams County, Hastings, NE. They eventually settled in Guy’s hometown of Sedalia, MO.

Pearl devoted her adult life to serving others. She assisted and cared for the elderly and children, particularly young children. While supporting Guy in constructing and remodeling homes she also worked several different jobs. She was a Notary Public and became a licensed realtor, which was a real benefit for selling homes that Guy built.

Most important to Pearl however was a devotion to Jesus and his church. Her service and capacities within the local church body were broad and unceasing. She served as teacher of both adult and children, church clerk, association messenger, and many other church functions…and yes one of those was building maintenance and construction.

Pearl is survived by a son, Guy Dan Rumsey (Debra) of Smithton, MO; daughter, Paula Ann Utter of Kansas City, MO; and son, Shane Timothy Rumsey (Kristin) also of Kansas City, MO; a sister, Elizabeth Hayek of Hastings, NE; brother, Harvey DuBose of Santa Anna, CA; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Guy Fleming Rumsey Jr.; brothers, Ralph, Wayne Jr., Dan Earl (her twin), and John; and sisters, Sally Yeats (Née House), and Beulah (DuBose) Rumsey (wife of Guy’s brother Thomas).
