Alice V. "Virginia" Anderson, 90, formerly of Smithton, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Cole Camp. She was born on March 3, 1927 near Beaman, MO the daughter of Henry Foss and Mary Elizabeth Grimes O'Neill, who preceded her in death.
On June 9, 1951 at Flat Creek Baptist Church she was united in marriage to George W. Anderson who preceded her in death on February 21, 1988.
Virginia was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church where she was active in WMU, teaching Sunday School and Bible School. She graduated from Smithton High School and received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education from Central Missouri State University. Virginia was a school teacher at two rural schools, Lone Star and Salem prior to teaching at Smithton Elementary for many years. She was a community leader for South Abell 4-H. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, walking, reading and especially loved caring for her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Sawford and her husband Donnie of Otterville; two sons, Paul Anderson and his wife Cindy of Smithton and Gene Anderson and his wife Shari of Smithton; six grandchildren, Neil Sawford and his wife Erin, Kent Sawford, Corrie Gifford and her husband Mark, Chance Anderson and his wife Maggie, Joseph Anderson and his wife Rachel, and Alyssa Anderson; eight great grandchildren, Will, Millie, Addie, Lilah, Kara, Sophie, Zach, and Elias; two sisters, Lois Hart of McLouth, KS and Nina Lorene Kunkel and her husband Bob of Columbia, SC.; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband George and her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother in infancy, Robert Earl O'Neill; a sister Esther Taylor and a brother Eldon O'Neill.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Rea Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Boatman officiating.
Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017 at the chapel.
Burial will be at Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Sedalia, MO.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Anderson, Bill Garrison, Mike Garrison, George Garrison, John Hart, Bruce Kunkel, Pat O'Neill and David Taylor.
Honorary bearers will be Neil Sawford, Kent Sawford, Chance Anderson, Joseph Anderson, Forest Allen, Honce DeHaven, Dwayne Thomas, Karis Thomas and Warren Anderson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Flat Creek Baptist Church or to Smithton Area Foundation for Education in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
