Obituary For Albert President

Albert Benjamin President, 74, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia. He was born on May 21, 1943, in Sedalia, the son of Herman W. and Alberta A. (Ferguson) President Sr., who preceded him in death.

Albert was baptized at an early age and became a member of Quinn Chapel AME Church in Sedalia. He joined the Junior Choir and sang several solo parts of various songs. The Junior Choir was under the direction of Joseph Brame. Albert attended CC Hubbard Grade School and High School and graduated in May, 1961. A few years after graduating he joined the United States Army and served our country with honor and dignity during the Vietnam War.

Albert worked for Sylvia G. Thompson Resident Center for 15 years. He studied and became a Certified Nurses Aid. He enjoyed his job taking care of the residents and working with the staff (always flirting with the women). "The Player". Albert's health was declining to the point that he was not able to live alone. His last battle with pneumonia in May 2016 helped him decide to become a resident at Sylvia. He said he got to be on both sides of the fence, caregiver and care receiver. This was one of the most difficult decisions he had to make, but he knew it was the right one.

Albert enjoyed playing games on the computer and the Wii. He loved music and loved to sing. The Temptations and Marvin Gaye were his favorites. Believe it or not, Albert enjoyed cooking and watching the cooking channel network. He and Carol Sue would talk many nights and would be cooking at the same time. When Albert would leave his residence he would be sharp as a tack from top to bottom. He considered himself as "The Real Ladies Man" and considered himself as "The Player". Whoever met Albert would not forget him because he was a "cut up" and unforgettable.

Survivors include four children; LaSonya Richardson (Edward) of Douglasville, GA, Ben Lyles (Beth) of Sedalia, David President and his wife of St. Louis, MO, Shelly Bucker of Clinton, MO; two sisters, Kay Finley (Darwin) of Sedalia and Gwendolyn Thompson (Joseph) of Port St Lucie, FL; two brothers in law, Raymond Taylor of Sedalia and Edward Johnson of Waterloo, IA; a special cousin, Rita Sue Whitney (Glen) of Belton, MO; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and greats; many cousins, and lots and lots of friends. "The Player" will truly be missed by all of us. He was one of a kind.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by five sisters, Barbara, Patty Jo, Sallie, Carol Sue, and Lilah; and a brother Herman, Jr.

Officiating his memorial service will be Rev. Maurice Stimage, Jr. nephew from Detroit, MI, and Pastor Calvin Pritchard of Taylor Chapel UMC, Sedalia.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Rea Funeral Chapel (1001 S. Limit Ave. Sedalia, MO 65301)
