Amanda, Christine, and Dean, We are going to miss your sweet Willow here at Children’s Mercy soooo very much! I have thought of her often since you last left and will continue to think of her, keep you in my prayers, and will always remember her. I do not know of a little girl who is stronger than Willow. We all fell in love with all of you when we first met you when Willow was on ECMO. Then when she woke up off ECMO, we first saw glimpses of her sass tinged politeness, and fell in love with her as well. I treasure my visits with you and with Willow. Your love and devotion to her was a blessing to witness and I am honored to have been a part of her journey. She had the BEST imagination and I so enjoyed participating in her stories and play, whether she was a pirate in her ship/bed, having a tea party, needing a happy dance, or writing tickets (I was always good and never got one :)). The way she had her papa wrapped around her finger was so fun and endearing to experience. So of course I was thrilled to learn after she got home, papa built her a snowman….of course he did!…..and put her pink recliner on wheels so that would be her throne to get around instead of the wheelchair!!! Please hear me say, you all navigated her journey here with as much grace, love, selflessness, thoughtfulness, and devotion as I have seen, especially when faced with an ending we had all hoped would be different. I know Willow had really wanted to go to school and I am so sorry she did not get to do that. However, I hope it can bring you comfort, to know, she was a teacher through and through. I learned a lot from her and am I grateful for that and I will always treasure my time with Willow and your sweet family.

Nothing can be as painful or tragic as the loss of a child. No words can be whispered nor hand offered to bring lasting peace. May this day pass and comfort be found in coming days. Now, God will bless this sweet girl.
