Obituary For Monty Forest Bobbitt

Monty Forest Bobbitt, 59, of Sedalia, MO passed away Friday, April 5, 2019 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born on September 27, 1959 in Sedalia. He is the son of Charles E. Bobbitt and Carol V. Jackson Bobbitt.

On March 17, 2001 in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Debra A. Summers, who survives of home. Monty was known as a hardworking, funny, and energetic family man. In childhood, his fondest memories were of spending time at Grandma and Grandpa Bobbitt's turkey farm in the Otterville area. He was a traveler and lived in different states throughout his life, but always considered Florida his "home" state. Several hobbies occupied his younger years, including hunting alligators. Monty entered the workforce early, experiencing a variety of jobs. They ranged from working a crab boat, to manufacturing, to welding in a shipyard, although his real calling came when he began driving a truck over the road. For years he drove a tractor trailer, exploring almost every state in the union. Although Monty spent a lot of time at work, he also enjoyed his downtime, taking his daughter and wife on trips as often as he could. In retirement he was able to spend more time enjoying his hobbies like boating and fishing with his family. He took great pride in maintaining the house and was an excellent handyman. Fixing cars, boats, and appliances were his specialty. Building and landscaping around the house came naturally. Despite all of these talents, Monty's greatest skill was in making people laugh. He took after his uncle and was quick with perfectly timed jokes. Forever a comedian. Monty will be remembered as the sweet, caring, and giving man he was. Sorely missed and loved by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include two daughters, Brittany Bobbitt of the home and Amanda Bobbitt of Sedalia; a son, Robert Bobbitt of California; a step son, Mitch Bail (Kim) of Sedalia; two sisters, Tara D. House of Cocoa Beach, FL and Tonja S. Mattson of Minnesota; a brother, Lester "Rusty" Bobbitt of Warsaw; extended step-family, LaDona Schever (Byrtie Parker) of Independence, Myrtie Bartine (James) of Stover, David G. Bryant (Laura) of Temple, TX, Carolyn Carlile (John) of West, TX, Lowell E. Bryant (Christy) of Rogers, TX, and John W. Bryant (Tammy) of Smithton; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. "Sonny" Bobbitt; sister, Tammy Bobbitt; and one brother who died at birth.

Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Rea Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dan Hankins officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the family in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
