Obituary For Melvin Eugene Trelow

Melvin Eugene (Gene) Trelow, 82, of rural La Monte, MO passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019 at his home. He was born on April 11, 1936 in Gillium, MO the son of William Jennings Bryan and Sadie Bell (Sleeper) Trelow, who preceded him in death.

On June 21, 1955 in rural La Monte, MO he was united in marriage to Eula Ann Faulconer, who resides in the home.

Gene graduated from La Monte High School and honorably served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee (United States Naval Construction Battalions). He owned and operated Gene's Drive-In in La Monte for twenty-five years. He also worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation and retired as a Maintenance Supervisor after 36 years of faithful service. He loved woodworking and was an excellent handyman. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and attending auctions. He was a member of La Monte United Methodist Church. Gene was a true family man. He especially loved the grand and great-grandchildren. Many of the community saw Gene as a father figure. He will be dearly missed.

Besides his wife of sixty-three years, survivors include his two children, Loretta Louise Hall (Paul) of La Monte and Sam Trelow (Patty) of Sedalia; three siblings, Bill Trelow (Christa) of O'Fallon, IL, Merle Trelow (Evonne) of Mt. Leonard, MO, and Betty O'Halloran of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren, Jessie Elwell (Brad), Jack Hall (Katie), Justin Hall (Katee), John Trelow (Anabel), James Trelow (Amanda), and Blake Trelow (Kylie); sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 14, 2019 at La Monte United Methodist Church, La Monte, MO with Pastor Emily Stirewalt, officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church.

A private burial will be at County Line Cemetery following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to La Monte United Methodist Church or Crossroads Hospice.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
