Obituary For Melvin Dale Sands

Melvin Dale Sands, 89, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. He was born on August 17, 1929 in Sedalia, the son of H. B. and Mary Irene (Shull) Sands, who preceded him in death.

On August 17, 1954 in Miami, OK, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Curry, who preceded him in death on October 9, 2017.

Dale served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad at night while attending Central Missouri Teachers College in Warrensburg where he received his Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education. Dale taught for the Sedalia #200 School District for many years. During his tenure, he taught at Whittier, Washington, Mark Twain, and Horace Mann schools. He enjoyed going hunting, camping, fishing, and traveling with his family. Dale couldn't go anywhere in public without one of his students coming up to him and asking him if he remembered being their teacher.

Dale was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church for many years. He was also a member of Sedalia VFW Post #2591 and Sedalia American Legion #642 for many years.

Survivors include a son Robben Sands and wife Lorna of Scotland; three granddaughters, Hope, Jessica, and Chloe; three brothers, Donald Sands of Sedalia, Ralph Sands and wife Mildred, of Belton, MO, and Jerry Sands and wife Annie, of Grandview, MO;

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Ann Sands.

At Dale's request, there will be no services or visitation.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
