Obituary for June Rice Kneser
June Rice Kneser, 94, of Sedalia, MO passed away Friday, August 31, 2018 at Rest Haven Convalescent Home, Sedalia. She was born on May 15, 1924 in Salem, MA the daughter of Walter and Marion Hamlin Rice, who preceded her in death.
On June 3, 1944 she was united in marriage to Willard “Bill” Mohns, who preceded her in death in 1974. On September 11, 1977 she was married to Jacob Schmidt, who passed away in 1990. On March 15, 1994 she was married to Harvey Kneser who passed away in 2002.
June had a strong faith in God. She was very active in the churches she attended and sang in the choir. She earned her masters degree and worked as a teacher and school counselor. She was a great cook and often invited those away from their families to celebrate the holidays. She set a tradition of Christian hospitality that her family continues. June was politically active and had the opportunity to meet and dine with various presidents. She loved to travel the world and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include, daughter, Cheri Heeren of Sedalia; five grandchildren, Laura Morey (Joe), Liz Ambrose (Kevin), Jim Whitsitt (Heather), Catie McLaughlin (Russ) and Jason Mohns (Sara); ten great grandchildren, Mike (Katie), Kim and Ally Morey, Jordyn and Meredith Kemp, Megan and Chloe Whitsitt, Emily and Samuel McLaughlin and Kendall Mohns; four great-great grandchildren Ella, Lily, Cheri, and J.J. (Baby Howie); nieces, Deb Rice and Sue Mohns Justice; and nephews, Steve, John and Craig Mohns.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Mohns; daughter, Pamela Ann Mohns; brothers, Bernard and Richard Rice; sisters-in-law, Betty, Audrey, and Donna Rice; and nephews, Richard, Robert and William Rice.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia with Rev. Jim Downing officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at 2:00 pm at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Strong Tower Haiti, in care of the funeral chapel.
