I met Judy when she hired me to work for her when I was 15 years old. In many ways, Judy was like a grandmother to me. She always looked after me. I can still hear her telling “that boy is just trouble and you just need to stay away from him. Just have fun”. And she was right every time. When I think of Judy, I always think about our shared love of “Gone with the Wind”. I used to tell Judy her name should’ve been Scarlett. I think we could’ve acted out the whole movie. I still picture Judy sitting at the counter at Wheel inn with her tea from Starbucks and a fresh manicure, just talking away. She was just a social butterfly and made friends with everyone. Judy also had such a good sense of humor and always had a unique way of looking at things. I remember when her sister Nancy passed away, I went to give Judy hug and she looked at me and said “now Izzy, I can stand everybody’s tears but yours so you stop that crying”. I know she would be telling me to stop my crying now. I ended up joining the Navy after high school and Judy wrote me while I was on deployment from time to time. Two years ago, I was able to come through town and I stopped to see Judy. I am so very thankful that I did get to see her and that she was able to meet my two little ones. I wish I could’ve seen her more. I will miss her very much, but I know she is in a better place. I am so thankful to have met such an amazing woman and I am so thankful for the memories I have of her.
