Obituary For Jimmy Donahue Gilkey

Jimmy Donahue Gilkey, 80, of Concordia, MO passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on July 10, 1937 in Higginsville, MO the son of Elmer James and Hattie Mae (Booker) Gilkey, who preceded him in death.

On June 22, 1963 he was united in marriage to Ruth Jean Heyer, who passed away April 8, 1988.

Jimmy loved horses, hunting and fishing. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed going to auctions. He served his country honorable in the US Army during the Vietnam era and was an expert sharpshooter.

Survivors include his four daughters, Donna Faught (Steve) of Higginsville, Bonnie Gilkey of Concordia, Connie Douglas of Cook Station, and Nancy Gilkey of Concordia; brother George "Mac" Gilkey of Higginsville; sisters Juanita Sue Capps of Higginsville and Sarah Phee of Independence; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Gilkey, Larry Joe Gilkey, and Jerry Gilkey; sisters Judy Borgstadt, Betty Draper, Evelyn Hill, Helen Folsom, Margie Doak, Marie Andrews, Doris Dumas, and Mary Lou Gassen; grandchild Casey Beard and great grandchild Anthony Gilkey.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, July 9, 2018 at Concordia Baptist Cemetery, Concordia, MO with Rev. Dan Hankins, officiating.

Pallbearers will be Ben Sassmann, Ryan Sassman, Brian Beard, Tim Beard, and Corey Bartshe. The honorary pallbearer will be Brandon Gilkey.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
