Obituary For David Allen Carter

A caring and wholesome man has passed from this world, and we are the lesser for it. David Allen Carter, aged 61, passed away at his home on December 25th, 2019. Born in New Mexico in 1958, Dave followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the Air Force at the age of 20. He served honorably for 20 years, including a deployment to the Middle East during the Desert Storm conflict, and was honorably discharged in 1998. Dave then began work at Bothwell Hospital in Sedalia, MO, where he worked until his death. During his time in the military Dave had served all over the country, and the world, but his greatest accomplishment was the family he made. He was a caring father with two children born to him, and five more that he lovingly accepted as his own. In 1991 Dave met the love of his life, and future wife Pati (McKinney) Carter, with whom he spent the next 25 years of his life. Sadly, Pati was diagnosed with cancer in 2012, and she preceded Dave in death in November of 2016. Dave is survived by his parents father Fred Carter and mother Betty Joan Collins; two children from a previous marriage, son Nick Carter and daughter Amanda Carter; as well as the children he was blessed with by the union to Pati, daughter Krista Brown, daughter Jessica Jones, son Zan McKinney, daughter Caitlin McKinney, and daughter Elizabeth McKinney. Dave was also survived by his six grandchildren Tyler (20); Brecken (11); Rooke (8); Emersyn (5); Ryland (13); and Torin (2).

Quick to smile and share a story Dave always had time to listen when friends or family needed him, and would do anything in his ability to make their lives easier. He was a consummate animal lover, who could be found at any time carrying around one of his beloved dogs Toby or Mitzi like a newborn baby, and had a passion for motorcycles and his riding group. His hard work ethic, love for family and friends, and his selfless nature will be missed by all that he touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.
