Obituary For Benjie Lee Meek

Benjie Lee Meek, 68, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Friday, February 15, 2019 at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was born on January 26, 1951 in Shelbyville, Indiana, the son of Bennie H. and May Rose (Badgley) Meek, who preceded him in death.

On January 8, 1988 in Miami, OK, he was united in marriage to Margaret J. Neighbors, who resides in the home.

Benjie was an all around bad ass. He was an army combat veteran who served two tours in the vietnam war. After an honorable discharge from the military he spent many years as a commercial fisherman before going to work as a millwright for some of the biggest construction companies in the world. In his free time, Benjie loved spending time with his family; especially the kids. He enjoyed taking them fishing, hunting, camping and to the shooting range. He was an avid gun collector, history buff and movie lover. His family was always mesmerized by his wild tales of his adventures all over the world. Buddy, pal, lots of cussing, the Popeye, love of the grandpa's life, John Wayne and all that other good stuff. We love you forever.

In addition to his wife he is survived by four children, Bobby Moore of Sedalia, Jerrica Calderon and husband Limbano of Louisville, KY, Renee Meek of Sedalia, and Melody Meek of Kansas City, MO; eight grandchildren, Gabriela, Diego, Leticia, Alejandro, Alyssa, Rowan, Sofia, and Jameson; one great grandson, Miguel; and a sister, Rosellen Meek of Lake Helen, FL.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Chyntelle Meek; and a brother, Jack Meek.

A celebration of life gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation in care of the funeral home.
