Mable Chiles

MablObituary Photo 2e E. Wehmeyer Chiles, 85, of Sedalia passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at Fair View Nursing Home, Sedalia.  She was born on October 30, 1931 in Cole Camp, MO the daughter of William Frederick  and Martha Francis (Sebree) Wehmeyer, who preceded her in death.

On August 25, 1948 in Sedalia, she was united in marriage to Lester Chiles, who preceded her in death on April 7, 2012.

Mabel was baptized at Waldo Baptist Church in Independence, MO. She worked as a cook at Morgan Co. public school system in 1969 until 1986. She began quilting 1988 and starting helping her daughter, Theresa in her shop in Sedalia in 1989 until 1996. Mabel enjoyed running the family farm with her husband Lester, her small crafts and quilts business along with selling statuary yard ornaments. She lived most all of her life in the Morgan County area.

She is survived by two daughters, Theresa Gerber and her husband Doyle of Sedalia and Carolyn Thomas and her husband Robert “Slim” of Houstonia; three grandchildren, Sally Beard and her husband Robert, Keith Thomas, and Ariel Thomas; five great grandchildren, Cristina, Samantha, Nicole, Kyle and Paige; a sister, Kathryn Schuerman of DeSota, MO; and a brother, John Wehmeyer and his wife Leota of Mora, MO.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by four sisters, Bernice Ficken, Bessie Rayl, Willie Mae Schneider, and Delores Morris; three brothers, Forrest Wehmeyer, Sam Wehmeyer and Fred Wehmeyer.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Rea Funeral Chapel with Rev. Rusty Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Burial will be at Highland Sacred Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Doyle Gerber, Robert “Slim” Thomas, Keith Thomas, Russell “Sug” Rayl, Danny Van Dyne and Ryan Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fair View Nursing home to purchase a bench in memory of Mable.
